Clonazepam (kloe NA ze pam) is a benzodiazepine. An anti epileptic, anti- anxiety drug (anxiolytics). It is also used to treat seizures ( anti-convulsant) and panic disorders. Brand names are Rivotril, Ravotril, Rivatril but the most common is the Klonopin.
You can take this medication by mouth with a glass of water. If with GI upset, you may take it with food or milk and make sure you take it at regular intervals. Observe for side effects such as
- allergic reactions like skin rash, itching or hives, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue
- changes in vision
- confusion
- depression
- hallucinations
- mood changes, excitability or aggressive behavior
- movement difficulty, staggering or jerky movements
- muscle cramps, weakness
- tremors
- unusual eye movements
Side effects listed above should be reported to the doctor as soon as possible.
